Anyone able to identify this breed?

We got 25 Chickens — some Buff Orpingtons and some Wyandottes but this guy slipped into the mix and we cannot identify what he is.

According to a bunch of chicken breeders at homesteadingtoday.com, Mystery Chicken is an Easter Egger, a cross between an auracana and americana chicken. These are bred for colorful eggs.

The jury is out on if Mystery Chicken is male or female. The bugger looks roosterish to me, so I'll probably be really shocked when "he" lays an egg.

We have Americanas and five that look just like this fellow (Or Gal). Roosters have short little Peacombs and this breed have no wattles. They have little feather "beards" and cheek feathers jutting out of their faces. Once in a while you will see some without cheek feathers. They come in a huge variety of colors. They are supposed to have slate colored legs and feet, no green ones. The egg color gene is connected to the peacombs and slate colored legs and feet. Without these features, they're "chicken soup". They are hatched wearing green legs but they must change to slate within four months of age. They have very good memories and can become tame pets. Has he crowed yet? Some of this breed are slow maturers so they can really fool you. We've seen some sweet little confirmed hens turn on the testosterone and astonish us! Hope this helps!

Wow! Thanks so much for the reply!

No, Mystery Chicken hasn't crowed at all. Mystery does do alot of displaying with the other roosters, which makes me think of the bugger as a "him". He's not a lap chicken, but will come up and hang out right next to me and follow me around. I've already decided that even if Mystery is a rooster, he won't be sent to "freezer camp" - the bugger is awfully pretty, and we can afford to just let a pretty bird hang around.
